The Diplomatic Academy of Peru Javier Pérez de Cuéllar has signed an agreement with the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) for the creation of the UNESCO Chair in Diplomacy and Cultural Management at The Diplomatic Academy of Peru is the first institution in charge of the training of the members of a Professional Diplomatic Service in achieving the aforementioned achievement at the global level.

The culture is one of our key strategic pillars to project the image of Peru in the world and is an essential tool for the Foreign Policy of our country. That is why it is of utmost importance to strengthen the skills in management and cultural promotion of the aspirants and members of the Diplomatic Service of Peru. An active promotion of cultural industries, cultural tourism and heritage protection of the Diplomatic Missions will contribute effectively to poverty reduction, sustainable economic growth, innovation and employment and the consequent achievement of the objectives of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.

Our country has signed the main international conventions of UNESCO and has signed important agreements on bilateral cooperation and cultural promotion. Peru is also the twenty-third country with the highest number (13) of sites inscribed on World Heritage List of UNESCO and the third in Latin America after Mexico and Brazil. Besides, with 24 sites inscribed on the Tentative List, which are likely to be declared World Heritage by the Committee at future sessions. He has also written 12 cultural events in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Peru is a founding member of the Forum of Ancient Civilizations.

In the framework of the Chair, this will reinforce the curriculum in the cultural field of the Master's degree in Diplomacy and International Relations that follow the aspirants to the Diplomatic Service in Peru. Also, through the Virtual Platform of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with the Office of Training of Staff, the diplomatic officials in charge of cultural affairs may carry a degree of Improvement in Management and Cultural Promotion.

The Chair also seeks to promote academic cooperation in cultural topics with diplomatic academies of other countries, as well as with other Unesco Chairs. It will also seminars, workshops and courses aimed at the civil society, and other public entities. In the first half of 2025 will be published on the number specialized on Foreign Cultural Policy in the magazine "International Policy" of this Academy, as well as other publications. The activities and results will be disseminated through the website of the Chair and all of our institutional channels.
